Hazy IPA with Citra, Mosaic, Amarillo, Galaxy, and Vic Secret hops. Aromas of mango, citrus, and grapefruit.
A Northeast IPA (note) with Citra, Mosaic, Amarillo, Galaxy, and Vic Secret hops.
It has a cloudy yellow color with a white head.
Aromas of mango and citrus.
The flavor also has a strong hop character with notes of grapefruit.
A clean bitterness lingers after the sweetness.
Note: In 2016, a major boom occurred for beers often referred to as "New England Style" or "Vermont Style." These cloudy pale ales and IPAs, characterized by their hazy appearance and juicy flavors, are collectively known as "Hazy Pale Ale" or "Hazy IPA," using the term "Hazy."
The most distinctive feature of these East Coast-style beers, which originated in the New England region of the northeastern United States, is their "cloudiness."
Some people might associate cloudy beer with poor quality, but in reality, the pale ales and IPAs we commonly drink were originally cloudy.
The clear, vibrant liquid you see when poured into a glass is because the fine impurities that would make the beer cloudy are filtered out during the brewing process.
While "impurities" might be a misleading term, they are actually yeast used in the brewing process and hop residue.
Of course, if they remain for too long, they can darken the beer's color and even alter its taste. However, filtering, while removing these, also causes a very slight loss of the fruity hop aromas, which are part of the appeal of pale ales and IPAs.
By not filtering, these East Coast styles achieve a smooth, creamy mouthfeel and suppress hop bitterness, instead imparting a tropical, juicy sweetness to the beer, much like fruit juice.
