A super popular seasonal product that temporarily monopolizes the production line of standard products. Let's welcome the New Year holidays in Japan with elegant fresh hops.
An unsparing celebration dedicated to fresh hops.
Brewed annually since 1981, this is Sierra Nevada's first IPA and one of the earliest IPAs in craft beer history.
It is the best-selling beer among their seasonal product lines.
Made with an abundance of hops personally selected by the brewers, this beer can be considered one of the earliest American-style IPAs in the history of American craft beer.
Celebration was first brewed in October 1981 by founder Ken Grossman as a winter seasonal beer, and the recipe has remained unchanged from 1983 to the present.
This means that even after more than 30 years, it still produces the same taste as it did then.
The fact that such a beer continues to be loved is undoubtedly a result of Grossman's foresight and his insatiable dedication to hops.
The hops used are carefully selected Cascade and Centennial.
And not just any hops, but fresh hops (hops that have been dried and harvested within 7 days).
While there are differences depending on whether they are dried or not, or whether they are whole-cone hops or pellet hops, hops generally lose their freshness and original character over time.
Therefore, Grossman created a beer characterized by its raw flavor by using the freshest hops possible.
Today, hop-forward beers are taken for granted, but in the early 1980s, producing such an intense flavor was groundbreaking.
Even today, every year before the hop harvest season, a lot of effort is put into selecting the hops to be used for Celebration.
Around the first week of September, the hop farm to be used for that year's brew is selected, and as soon as the hops are harvested, they are dried at low temperatures and quickly delivered to the brewery after packaging.
Once the hops arrive at the brewery, it becomes a festive occasion.
As soon as the fresh hops arrive at the brewery, brewing begins simultaneously, creating a beer with powerful citrus aromas, a customary event that marks the beginning of winter for Sierra Nevada.
When poured into a glass, it has a deep amber color with a creamy beige head.
The aroma is intensely piney and citrusy, floral, fruity with malt, and slightly spicy.
The taste is bitter grapefruit, malt, with a hint of tangerine sweetness.
The finish is dry and bitter.
What is particularly noteworthy is the exceptional balance between hops and malt, allowing for full enjoyment of the hop flavor without being overwhelming, and possessing a mellow drinkability.
This beer will undoubtedly become one of the joys of the winter holiday season.
Raise your glass and enjoy the blessing named Celebration.
