Karl Strauss Aurora Hoppyalis IPA (473ml)

A wonderfully smooth and drinkable IPA with tropical fruit and tangerine flavors derived from hops, and aromas of pine and fresh-cut grass.

A new San Diego-style IPA "where hop aromas shimmer like the aurora."

Previously a limited brew, it became a new regular lineup item in January 2016.

Far from the Arctic Circle, San Diego, of course, cannot see the shimmering aurora (Aurora Borealis in English) in its night sky.

However, San Diego has something that shines just like the aurora.

IPA.

San Diego is a sacred place where numerous beers with prominent hop aromas and flavors are born, to the extent that "a beer called IPA elsewhere would be called a Pale Ale in San Diego."

And brewed in homage to this city enchanted by hops is Aurora Hoppyalis.

Based on pale malt and wheat, and generously dry-hopped with Simcoe, Mosaic, Amarillo, and Citra hops, it's finished as a beer that San Diegans recognize as "this is an IPA."

When poured into a glass, an off-white head sits atop the orange-golden liquid.

The aroma clearly features tropical fruits and tangerine derived from hops, with scents of pine and fresh-cut grass also rising.

The flavor is also very tropical, with mango, passionfruit, citrus, and pine flavors delighting the drinker one after another.

The finish is dry and crisp.

Medium carbonation makes it easy to drink, even giving a refreshing sensation.

In contrast to the Tower 10 IPA, which primarily uses classic bitterness and citrus aromas from Cascade, Chinook, and Centennial hops, this San Diego-style IPA emphasizes tropical aromas.

In California, it became incredibly popular upon release, with many stores selling out in one to two days.

Under a cloudless, hoppy night sky, Aurora Hoppyalis will shimmer richly and surely impress drinkers.
