It was first brewed in August 1997 to celebrate Stone's 1st anniversary.

Three hop varieties—Magnum, Chinook, and Centennial—are used in generous quantities.

A two-week dry-hopping process allows the hop flavors and aromas to integrate while maintaining their layered complexity.

When Steve Wagner, Stone's co-founder and first brewmaster, first brewed Stone IPA, he had no way of knowing.

That this experimental beer style, which liberally hopped the venerable English Pale Ale, would gain such passionate popularity.

While the three letters "IPA" are now well-known among beer fans, when Stone IPA debuted in the craft beer scene in 1997, most people questioned what "IPA" even stood for.

Unknown and initially perceived by many as having an unpleasant bitterness, this beer has since become a beloved staple, often found in refrigerators.

Just as Steve Wagner is like the father who created the foundational beer for Stone Brewing Co., Stone IPA is like the mother who has continuously inspired the "hop-forward beers" brewed at Stone ever since.
