A blend of citrus notes from hops and a pleasant bitterness with a malty character, accompanied by a resinous flavor and subtle sweetness reminiscent of vanilla and caramel. A collaboration with American metal band Deftones.
An India Pale Ale crafted through a collaboration between Belching Beaver and the American alternative metal band "Deftones."
Chino Moreno, the lead vocalist of Deftones, shared that he first got into craft beer when he was young and broke, treating himself to Sierra Nevada Pale Ale as a luxury.
As a craft beer enthusiast, he conceived the idea of a collaboration between his band and a brewery, and Belching Beaver was his first choice.
As discussions rapidly progressed, Belching Beaver made sure not to simply capitalize on the band's name. They meticulously shared brewing ideas, flavor details, and prototypes with Chino Moreno, meticulously crafting the recipe for this collaborative beer.
This commitment, coupled with Chino's significant involvement in the process of bringing a new beer to life, moved him, leading Deftones and Belching Beaver to form a strong partnership without collaborating with any other breweries.
Their first collaborative beer was this Deftones Phantom Bride.
It has now become a core product of the brewery.
The name was taken from the title of a single (note) that was slated for release around the same time.
While this fortuitously aligned with the release timing, it also served as an unprecedented and unconventional promotional strategy, making a significant impact.
Meanwhile, beer aficionados highly praised its taste, earning it 97 points on RateBeer.
Utilizing Amarillo, Citra, Simcoe, and Mosaic hops, personally selected by Chino Moreno, in a perfect balance, the beer is highly drinkable with prominent hop characteristics.
It pours a hazy, bright yellow color with a white head.
A citrus aroma reminiscent of lemon, a slightly sweet aroma like ripe melon, and herbaceous, grassy notes waft from the glass.
The flavor is a blend of citrus notes from the hops and a pleasant bitterness, with a cereal-like malty character, along with a resinous flavor and subtle sweetness reminiscent of vanilla and caramel.
It has a medium body and a mild, smooth finish.
The bitterness of the hops and the sweetness derived from the malt complement each other, leading to a dry finish.
A highly accomplished smash-hit IPA that captivated many hop heads.
Note: Featured on Deftones' 8th album "Gore," released in April 2016.
