Founders Backwoods Bastard (355ml)

A perfect Ratebeer 100-point masterpiece that combines the pleasant aromas of single malt Scotch whisky, oak and smoky aromas, caramel, roasted malt, spices, and dark fruits.

The new lineup, “Barrel-Aged Series,” is one of Founders’ identities.

The fifth release is "Backwoods Bastard," a version of the classic Scotch ale, Dirty Bastard, aged in bourbon barrels.

It's a masterpiece that combines all these elements.

This Backwoods Bastard rests deep underground in bourbon barrels.

This Scotch ale is aged in a cave approximately 85 feet below ground level.

The caves were originally used for mining gypsum, but have since been abandoned and are now used by Founders as a aging cellar.

As of April 2016, the project has over 9,000 bourbon barrels and is said to be the largest barrel aging project in the United States.

This area, located deep underground, naturally has the perfect cellar temperature for maturing beer.

The color is a deep brown that is almost black.

The aroma is rich bourbon, followed by caramel, dark fruit, raisins, toffee and other malt notes, oak and vanilla.

The taste is similar, with a more robust oak flavor.

A rich flavor that evokes depth.

The smooth, creamy, rich mouthfeel is reminiscent of a milk stout, but the flavor is reminiscent of the bold, full-bodied flavor of a Scotch ale.

It's so easy to drink that you'll forget the high 11% alcohol content.
