A refreshing finish with a good balance of citrusy hop aroma from generously used hops and a firm bitterness. Awarded gold at GABF for two consecutive years!

Union Jack is a classic West Coast-style IPA that, while aggressively hoppy, also boasts an outstanding balance.

Although it's an American craft beer, it's named "Union Jack," reminiscent of Britain. This is a tribute to the IPA style, which originated during the former British Empire, and to David Walker, the British co-founder of Firestone Walker.

Unlike their flagship DBA, this beer is primary fermented 100% in stainless steel tanks.

Launched in February 2008, this IPA was the first in the brewery's "Jack" series. It uses a generous amount of hops, with Magnum for bittering, Cascade and Centennial added late in the boil for aroma, and then two rounds of dry-hopping with Amarillo, Cascade, Centennial, Citra, Chinook, and Simcoe. This creates an overwhelming flavor of grapefruit, pineapple, tangerine, apricot, and citrus, balanced by the contrasting sweetness of pale malt.

A subtle, pleasant acidity is felt in the finish, and the ideal level of carbonation contributes to a very smooth mouthfeel, making it refreshing.

This beer, which "unions" American innovation with respect for the British-originated IPA style, further solidifies the reputation of the "American West Coast" as a leader in the IPA revolution.

It won a silver medal at the 2008 World Beer Cup and consecutive gold medals at the Great American Beer Festival in 2008 and 2009.
