This popular item is so popular that it is often revived for limited periods. It uses chocolate, coffee, vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon, etc. to recreate the taste of Mexican hot chocolate.

The Mocha Stout, which was brewed in 2014 and caused a sensation, is back again this year! Stone's seasonal product lineup consists of the "Seasonal" series with a standard alcohol content, and the "Imperial Seasonal" series with a higher alcohol content and a fuller flavor, and each series is released in a different season.

This Stone Xocoveza is a piece from the latter Imperial Seasonal series.

The beer was originally created as a collaboration between Stone and native San Diegan Chris Banker, a champion of the American Homebrewers Association's homebrew competition, and Cervecería Insurgente from Tijuana, Mexico, across the border.

It quickly became popular within a few months of its release, with many bottle shops selling out.

Its popularity and amazing taste led to many calls for it to be brewed again, and Stone responded with a successful revival.

The concept of this stout remains unchanged from Chris Banker's homebrew recipe.

It uses cocoa, coffee, pasilla pepper (Note 1), cinnamon and nutmeg to recreate the taste of Mexican hot chocolate (Note 2).

The coffee comes from Mostra Coffee in San Diego, and the cocoa comes from ChocoVivo in Southern California.

The sweet, earthy and spicy flavors of Mexican hot chocolate will warm you right up.

It has a dark stout color with dark brown foam.

The nose initially displays distinct aromas of cinnamon, cocoa and coffee, followed by aromas of nutmeg and pepper.

As the beer warms, the flavor combination becomes more pronounced, with notes of cocoa and vanilla becoming more apparent.

Cocoa and cinnamon are at the forefront, followed by coffee, nutmeg and vanilla, with a fruity, peppery finish.

Full-bodied, yet very smooth and creamy with a light bitterness.

The great thing about this beer is that it is ageable.

Over time, the malt flavors become more pronounced and the cocoa and coffee notes become more pronounced.

Enjoy plenty of fresh Xocoveza in the winter season, and then savour its beautiful, aged flavour from spring onwards.
