Stone Ruination Double IPA 2.0, with its hoppy, fruity, and piney aromas and flavors, has evolved into an unfiltered version.
The original Stone Ruination IPA, born in 2002, was the world's first regularly bottled West Coast Double IPA.
As time progressed and craft beer became more widespread, the technology for maximizing hop flavor and aroma also evolved.
Reborn in 2015 as Stone Ruination Double IPA 2.0, this beer, through dry hopping (Note 1) and hop bursting (Note 2), was able to fully bring out the pine, citrus, and tropical aromas and flavors of the hops, along with a powerful hop intensity reminiscent of punk rock, heavy metal, and hard rock.
Then in 2018, Stone Ruination Double IPA 2.0 further evolved into an unfiltered version (this unfiltered version will be the new standard product).
"Sans Filtre" is pronounced "son-filtre" and means "unfiltered" in French.
By being unfiltered, you can directly enjoy the natural taste of the raw ingredients.
It has a clear golden liquid color with a creamy head.
Fruity aromas of melon and tropical fruit from the hops spread, along with an intense and rich citrus aroma.
A slight piney scent can also be detected.
Piney and tropical fruit flavors from the hops are prominent, followed by melon and citrus flavors.
A light malt presence enhances the hop bitterness.
Medium-bodied and dry, with a citrusy and bitter finish.
This Stone Ruination Double IPA 2.0 Sans Filtre, made even more flavorful by being unfiltered, has become a beer with an even more unrestrained and intense personality.
Note 1) A process of adding hops after boiling or fermentation to impart aroma.
Unlike adding hops during boiling, this process does not produce iso-alpha acids. Instead, it allows the oils present in the hops to remain in the beer.
These oils create the beer's splendid aroma.
This is an essential process for beers where hop aroma is intended to be prominent.
Note 2) A technique where, instead of adding bittering hops during the early stages of boiling to achieve bitterness, a large quantity of hops is added during the final stage of boiling, primarily to obtain aroma. This technique provides both aroma and bitterness simultaneously.
It results in wonderful aroma and flavor, along with a clean and smooth bitterness.
When combined with dry hopping, the aroma and flavor become multilayered and complex.
