Surly's 17th Anniversary. Inspired by the Boulevardier cocktail. Aged in bitter and bourbon barrels, this drink offers a complex flavor profile reminiscent of cherry, vanilla, brown sugar, and nutmeg.
Harry's New York Bar in Paris, France, founded in 1911, is a famous old establishment well-known among bar enthusiasts.
Celebrities and famous people from all over the world frequented it, and it was also where now-classic cocktails like the Bloody Mary, Sidecar, and Boulevardier were developed.
During the Prohibition era in the US, a club called "International Bar Flies" (a "Bar Fly" is someone who frequents bars daily) was even formed by bar maniacs at this very bar.
This "Seventeen," celebrating Surly's 17th anniversary, pays homage to Harry's New York Bar and is inspired by the Boulevardier cocktail, which blends bourbon, vermouth, and Campari.
First, a strong red ale and a strong Scotch ale are blended, then successively aged in Tattersall's bitter orange liqueur barrels and Heaven Hill Distillery's Henry McKenna bourbon barrels, resulting in a complex flavor profile reminiscent of cherry, vanilla, brown sugar, and nutmeg.
In a nod to "Bar Flies," the packaging design features a bold, realistic fly.
