The brewery's website describes this "Here Comes Mango IPA" as follows:
"If you're a fan of Mel Brooks (Note 1), you'll love this delicious, fruity IPA.
Just no punches to the face."
This is a play on the famous line "Don't hit my face!" (Note 2) from Mel Brooks' slapstick comedy "Blazing Saddles," explaining that it's a beer that has "achieved extreme balance by using mango instead of overly strong stimulation (punches)."
As the description, full of Belching Beaver's love for jokes, suggests, while the hop aroma and bitterness are certainly present, the fruity and juicy mango flavor provides balance, resulting in a superb overall balance for the beer.
It pours a bright golden color with a white head.
Citrus fruit and lemongrass aromas from Amarillo and Simcoe hops are followed by natural mango notes.
On the palate, there's a fantastic balance of juicy mango flavor, a subtle malty sweetness like honey, and a pleasant hop bitterness.
It's a light-to-medium body, leading to a dry finish that isn't overly sweet.
Neither the mango nor the hops overpower each other, resulting in a very drinkable IPA with an exquisite balance.
