The world's ultimate barrel-aged stout that excites beer geeks even before its release date. Among the beers described as having a "cult following," one that particularly captivates beer geeks is Kentucky Breakfast Stout, or KBS.
This limited-edition Breakfast Stout, made with chocolate and coffee, is aged for one year in Kentucky bourbon barrels.
In America, it generates such excitement that people camp out not only at the brewery but also at retailers.
KBS sleeps in bourbon barrels deep within a cave, about 85 feet (approximately 25m) below ground.
The aging cellar, repurposed from a cave where gypsum was originally mined, is considered America's largest barrel-aging project.
Aging at the optimal temperature created by nature results in a sweet, nutty flavor and an incredibly smooth mouthfeel.
The brewery suggests that the best way to enjoy it is to "decant KBS at room temperature (around 15℃) to allow it to breathe, then drink it from a brandy snifter."
It boasts aromas of roasted coffee, café latte, milk chocolate, vanilla, oak, and bourbon.
Upon tasting, a perfect balance of roasted notes, sweetness, and a hint of hop bitterness spreads across the palate.
It is full-bodied with a silky smooth mouthfeel.
The finish is long, with notes of bourbon, alcoholic warmth, and a slight malty sweetness.
In 2014, it was selected as the world's best beer by the beer review site RateBeer.
Furthermore, it received a perfect score of 100 on BeerAdvocate, making it the world's ultimate beer that leaves beer geeks speechless.
