Elegant roastiness and silky smoothness. The definitive porter, rated 100 points on RateBeer.

The brewery's classic porter.

The elegant sweetness of chocolate and caramel malts resonates like velvet.

It's a beer like a lover who always gently stays by your side, not an aggressively challenging opponent.

Rated 100 points on RateBeer, it's a masterpiece lauded as one of the top 3 porters in the world.

This Porter also embodies the history of Founders.

Porter was part of the lineup as a seasonal brew since the brewery's early days in 1997.

In 2001, its flavor was significantly altered with a recipe reformulation.

However, around 2005, due to the brewery's rapid growth, production couldn't keep up, forcing the discontinuation of Porter along with Imperial Stout.

The priority was given to increasing production of popular products like Dirty Bastard and Centennial IPA.

"But when we moved to a new facility in November 2007, we decided to bring back Porter and Imperial Stout," says co-founder Dave Engbers.

"Furthermore, Porter returned not as a limited edition, but as a core product.

This was because we believed that the porter style was gaining more attention at the time.

Back then, we sold beer mainly on the East Coast, and there were many porter lovers in New England and the Mid-Atlantic (referring to the mid-Atlantic states of the United States, which include New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Washington D.C., West Virginia, and Virginia from north to south).

We reintroduced Porter to them, and sales have been growing ever since."

With sales increasing by 85% year-on-year in 2012, Porter plays an indispensable role in Founders' growth.

Poured into a glass, a silken black liquid is topped with a dark brown head.

The aroma features gentle notes of chocolate, milk coffee, hazelnut, and vanilla.

On the palate, a savory, espresso-like roastiness gently spreads, accompanied by the subtle sweetness of malt.

Further nuances of prune, caramel, and milk chocolate emerge.

The finish is concluded with toasty cocoa.

The mouthfeel is velvety smooth.

Regarding this beer, with its striking label depicting a mysterious and enigmatic woman, Dave also comments:

"Porter holds a special place in my heart.

Once you taste it, you'll want to drink more.

However, many beer fans seem to underestimate this style.

"Founders' Porter will undoubtedly be a work that makes Japanese beer fans realize the excellence of porter.
