A rich chocolate, coffee, vanilla, and bourbon-like flavor with a silky smooth mouthfeel, thanks to barrel aging. Take your time and savor it.

Narwhal, one of Sierra Nevada's high-alcohol, full-bodied "High Altitude" series beers, is an Imperial Stout aged in barrels previously used for bourbon in Kentucky.

Narwhal is inspired by the narwhal, a mysterious creature that inhabits the deep waters of the Arctic Ocean.

Narwhals are small whales, and males are characterized by a single, very long tusk.

While their body length can reach up to 4.7 meters, their tusk can be 3 meters long and weigh up to about 10 kg.

They are excellent divers, able to descend at a speed of about 2 meters per second for 8 to 10 minutes, reaching depths of about 1000 meters.

The bourbon barrels used were from the Willet, Heaven Hill, and Jim Beam brands, and the beer was aged for 8 months.

This process elevates the "jet-black monster with outstanding malt depth" to a new dimension.

Instead of the strong roasted and berry-fruity notes that were prominent in fresh Narwhal, the barrel-aged version transforms into a flavor where rich, chocolate-like nuances come to the forefront.

When poured into a glass, a dark brown head sits atop the jet-black liquid.

The aromas are intense cocoa, espresso with faint vanilla, toasted coconut, and oak from the barrel.

Upon tasting, the sweetness of dark chocolate spreads first, followed by flavors of coffee, toffee, vanilla, coconut, bourbon, oak, and cocoa, appearing one after another.

The finish is woody with a faint bitterness and a pleasant, lingering sweetness.

It has a moderate carbonation and a silky smooth mouthfeel.

After Narwhal was released in October 2012, this barrel-aged version, initially sold in small quantities on draft, became available in packages starting in 2014.

Barrel Aged Narwhal, with a depth reminiscent of 1,000 meters below the ocean surface, is a limited edition beer that will astound any drinker.
