Complex yet Drinkable Saison-style, Lightly Hoppy Finish

More of a return to roots than a hybrid, this is a complex yet drinkable Belgian-style farmhouse ale.

The yeast used is distinctive, fermented with a special blend of 95% Dupont yeast (a brewery that embodies Belgian history, brewing since 1844, and producer of "Saison Dupont," Belgium's most popular saison) and 5% Westmalle yeast (one of the few breweries that can call itself a Trappist brewery, first brewed in 1836).

This is because traditional Belgian yeasts tend to weaken as fermentation progresses, becoming "lazy" as the fermentation completion stage approaches.

To prevent this, mixing it with an aggressive yeast helps the fermentation to complete more quickly.

Lomaland also initially used only Saison Dupont yeast during product development.

While the taste was not an issue, the speed of fermentation did not meet commercial standards.

Therefore, Westmalle yeast was blended in to improve the fermentation process as expected.

Poured into a glass, its slightly hazy golden liquid is topped with a firm head, immediately signaling a delicious saison.

The aroma clearly reveals a distinct yeasty character, fresh bread dough, and white pepper.

Fruity nuances are also subtly present, with herbal spice notes from Saaz hops balancing the overall profile.

The taste is generally dry, with yeast-derived pepper notes spreading from the moment it enters the mouth.

Its cracker-like flavor, derived from Pilsner Malt, Wheat Malt, and corn, is exceptionally fresh.

The finish leaves a pleasant bitterness on the tongue.

Not too light, not too heavy, it's a perfectly medium-bodied saison with strong carbonation, truly saison-like.

The name "Lomaland" comes from the beautiful yet eccentric utopian community that once existed in Point Loma, San Diego, where the brewery is located, and the first settlers of Point Loma.
