Kook Double IPA is a product that was previously only available on draft at Pizza Port Bressi Ranch, but has now been packaged.
It went on sale in the US on June 18, 2015, completing Pizza Port's standard lineup of Sessionable IPA, Single IPA, and Double IPA.
The name "Kook" comes from a statue in San Diego.
Matthew Antichevich (a surfer from Encinitas and an instructor at Mount San Jacinto College) was commissioned by the Cardiff Botanical Society to create the statue with a budget of $92,000 (approximately 100 million yen).
The surfer statue, built near the San Elijo State Beach campground, was ridiculed as "unmanly" due to its appearance and was "dressed up" in various ways, such as a clown, Santa Claus, and Zorro.
From this, the locals began calling the statue "Cardiff Kook" (the eccentric of Cardiff beach).
This beer has a clean body thanks to the use of only two-row barley and Pilsner malt. It uses a large amount of El Dorado, Melon, Chinook, CTZ, and Amarillo hops, and is dry-hopped twice, resulting in a finish full of fruity hop flavors.
When poured into a glass, it has a beautiful golden color with a white head, and an intense aroma of grapefruit, mandarin orange, citrus, and pine assails you.
The taste is citrus, pine resin, fresh grass, and tropical fruit.
It has a very dry and bitter finish, with the bitterness lingering on the tongue.
Despite its intense character, it has no alcoholic taste and is highly drinkable.
This is a masterpiece Double IPA dedicated to those who cherish the "slightly strange self" within them.
