North Coast Red Seal Ale (355ml)

An exemplary amber ale with a superb flavor, balanced by just the right amount of hop bitterness.

One of the initial beers in North Coast Brewing Company's lineup, founded in 1988 (the original lineup consisted of Red Seal Ale, Scrimshaw Pilsner Style Beer, and Old No. 38 Stout), this copper-colored ale is a prime example of an American Amber Ale.

Its name comes from the seal appearing red in the sunset, which is why a red seal adorns the packaging label.

The name "RIEDRICH'S" written around the ring that the seal is jumping through on the packaging label refers to Mark Riedrich, the brewery's owner and brewmaster.

When poured into a glass, it has a slightly cloudy, coppery-brown color with a persistent, thick off-white head.

The aroma features malt notes of caramel, honey, and brown sugar, followed by citrus and floral notes from the hops.

The flavor offers even more pronounced floral notes, bitterness, and citrus.

While not excessively bitter, the hop flavor makes a distinct statement for an amber ale.

At the same time, sweet caramel spreads across the palate, further accented by a hint of spiciness.

It finishes dry with lingering spiciness.

This beer boasts a superb flavor, using abundant hops and offering excellent balance between its robust body and malt flavors.

It pairs wonderfully with grilled meats.

Mark Lisheron of the Austin American-Statesman commented, "In my opinion, Red Seal's perfect balance of crisp freshness and concentrated flavor rivals Sierra Nevada Pale Ale."

Although the packaging label also describes it as a "copper-red pale ale," this beer is sometimes compared to Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

The key to Red Seal's deliciousness lies in the beautiful balance of hops and malt, which seems to transcend the "Amber Ale" category.

Its high quality is evident from the fact that it has won a total of 12 medals in competitions, including one gold and two silver medals at the Great American Beer Festival.
