This flagship English-style pale ale was launched when Firestone Walker was founded in 1996 and has always been at the forefront of the times.
Upon its release, it created a sensation in the brewery's home region of California's Central Coast and became recognized as a benchmark for a new era of beer.
It is one of the few beers brewed using their proprietary "Firestone Union" system and is named "Double Barrel" Ale because it is brewed using two main fermentation processes.
After primary fermentation in the Firestone Union system and stainless steel tanks, the beers are blended in a 2:8 ratio and filtered, then transferred to stainless steel cellar tanks for cold stabilization before being filled into draft kegs, bottles and cans.
In addition to the regular products available on the market, there is also an “Unfiltered DBA,” an unfiltered version of the 100% Firestone Union system that can only be drunk at the brewery.
It is brewed very faithfully to the style, and when poured into the glass, the beautiful clear reddish-brown beer has beautiful flavors such as smooth caramel and toffee produced by the pale malt, as well as smokiness and vanilla from the wooden barrels.
It has a mild, elegant aroma reminiscent of French bread, typical of English bitters, and is a full-bodied, hoppy beer with flavors of tea, vanilla, citrus, and toffee.
DBA is a globally recognized pinnacle of English-style pale ale, having won a gold medal at the World Beer Cup in 2002 and three gold medals at the Great American Beer Festival in 2011, 2012, and 2015.
